Our StratoFins are compatible with 95% of all water rocket launchers either homemade or commercially available in the marketplace.

Works with Various Designs

The StratoFins replicate the threaded portion of the soda bottle beyond the fins; therefore, it works with almost all types of launcher designs that employ a nozzle (StratoLauncher IV and Quest) or O-ring (Aquapod*) or cable ties (homemade) or expanding tube (AntiGravity) or rubber stopper (4M).

*Aquapod may require a fresh O-ring or a slightly thicker one (#67 O-ring 13/16 in. OD x 11/16 in. ID x 1/16 in.) If neither of these suggestions provide a snug enough fit, then use a #9 O-ring 5/8 in. O.D. x 7/16 in. I.D. x 3/32 in.

Requires Gentle or Chute Recovery

A water rocket outfitted with StratoFins can be launched with or without a parachute attached since this configuration does not nose dive, but instead tumbles gently to the ground provided the nosecone is not permanently attached. Employ a weighted fall away nosecone made from a 2nd soda bottle to ensure a gentle recovery. Also, avoid launching and landing on hard surfaces such as asphalt, concrete, or rocky ground.

StratoFins make it easy to attach a parachute by looping the shroud lines over the fins and securing the lines at the top of the rocket with a 4-inch zip tie. Although the StratoFins are durable, they are not designed for rockets with a permanently attached nosecone that nose dive into the ground or for angled trajectory launches without a chute.

Achieve Higher Altitude

StratoFins will guide your rocket to lofty heights with straight flights instead of tumbling through the air. Achieve altitudes at least double if not triple compared to launching without StratoFins attached. An aerodynamic weighted fall away nosecone made from a 2nd soda bottle is required.
