Last day for people to pick up bottled water after Wayne Water Crisis

WAYNE, W.Va . (WSAZ) – For weeks people picked up bottled water at Wayne Town Hall after a water crisis hit the water system.

This coming from a vandalism incident at an AEP substation in East Lynn at an abandoned coal mine led to oil leaking into the waterways.

After being under a ‘Do Not Consume’ order for multiple weeks, that order was lifted in early February.

After the order was lifted, some community members said they were still unsure about drinking the water, even though Wayne’s Mayor Danny Grace insists its safe again.

Just days after that order was lifted, a ‘Boil Water Advisory’ was then put into place after a raw water pump broke. That advisory has also been lifted.

With Saturday being the last day to pick up water at town hall, people like Iris Stadin said they will keep buying bottled water.

“I still don’t really trust the water 100 percent, but I hate that they stop giving the water, there comes a time where you know, the money runs out,” said Stadin. “So, they’re going to have to stop and try to do the best that you can.”
